Overview
Birds II is the companion work to Birds I within the Zooms video series, examining how perception changes through distance, duration, and sustained attention. Across five recordings, birds initially appear in close view before gradually receding into the surrounding landscape.
Unlike Birds I, the composition begins fully assembled. All five recordings are present simultaneously before slowly disengaging one by one. As each frame completes its outward zoom, it disappears, leaving the remaining recordings to continue until the final image also recedes from view.
The field dissolves.
One image disappears.
Then another.
Then another.
The composition gradually returns to stillness.
The birds are not the subject of the work.
They provide the conditions through which perception becomes visible.
Position
Zooms - Birds II demonstrates that recognition is never permanent.
It recedes through distance.
Until only the field remains.
