Overview
Passing Through I is a five-channel video work preserving movement through places encountered in transit. Recorded while traveling through Daytona International Speedway and the Las Vegas Strip, the work holds environments that exist only while passing through them.
Each recording unfolds continuously without interruption. The camera remains inside the movement as vehicles, barriers, architecture, changing light, and shifting viewpoints continually reorganize the frame.
The five recordings are arranged in the recurring exclamation-point structure found throughout the Ezra corpus. Four videos establish the vertical assertion while a fifth completes the punctuation.
The structure does not connect the places.
It preserves their passage.
The accompanying Data Frame identifies the work’s sonic field, inviting viewers to select and loop one or more of the listed tracks while watching. Each soundtrack produces a different encounter with the same moving image.
Nothing comes to rest.
The movement simply continues.
Position
Passing Through I demonstrates that some places can only be understood while moving through them.
The locations change.
The passage remains.
