Overview

Ambient I is a five-channel video work preserving brief environmental moments encountered across New York City, Hawai‘i, and Disneyland. Rather than documenting events, the work holds places in states of quiet completion, allowing weather, light, water, architecture, and distant activity to unfold without intervention.

Each recording remains fixed. The camera does not move. Motion occurs only within the environment itself—clouds drifting, water shifting, traffic passing, or light gradually changing across the frame.

The five recordings are arranged in the recurring exclamation-point structure found throughout the Ezra corpus. Four videos establish the vertical assertion while a fifth completes the punctuation.

The structure does not emphasize the places.

It emphasizes attention.

The accompanying Data Frame identifies the work’s sonic field, inviting viewers to recreate the durational conditions under which the recordings were assembled by looping the listed soundtrack while watching.

Nothing dramatic occurs.

The environments simply continue.

Position

Ambient I demonstrates that places need not perform to become meaningful.

Attention is enough.

Duration allows the rest to emerge.
