Door

Mixed-Media Assemblage

Overview

Door is the principal key to the Ezra corpus. Built around an original interior door from The Rigley Field, the work brings together first-order artifacts whose individual histories remain intact while becoming newly legible through proximity. These include a Hidden NY golf umbrella, a Do Not Disturb sign from Soho House Paris, and a woven market bag purchased by the artist’s mother in Aix-en-Provence during her only trip to Europe. The door itself is Data Framed and carries the puzzle, “This door is a knock knock knick knack,” while a second field of Data Frames installed on the adjacent wall expands the work’s contextual structure. Nothing is decoded at once. Meaning emerges through the viewer’s movement between object, provenance, language, memory, and return. In this way, Door contains the operating grammar of the wider practice: first-order material, contextual framing, delayed recognition, and the accumulation of meaning across separate histories. It does not merely function as an artwork within Ezra. It teaches the viewer how to read Ezra. Door is the Rosetta Stone of the corpus.
