Nine People
2025–2026
Mixed-media assemblage
Nine people from the artist’s life are represented through nine paired responses.
Each individual work begins with a sheet of TWA Hotel stationery and at least one Rimowa alphabet sticker, sometimes combined with additional stickers and handwritten marks.
Each is then given its own Data Frame and soundtrack pertaining specifically to its subject, whether that subject is a person, an idea, or a sentence.
The nine people are not represented through conventional portraits. Each is reduced to a name assembled from found letters, forms, and marks.
Beside each person is a second work made through the same process: a word that emerged in response to them.
Phil is paired with Experience.
Dora with Mother.
Dad with Faith.
The response is not intended to summarize the person. It records one association that became clear while making the work.
Together, the eighteen works are installed as nine pairs moving vertically up the wall. The final two are positioned below the others to form the dot of an exclamation point.
Within each small work, separate fragments have to be assembled before a name or word becomes recognizable. Across the wall, those individual works are assembled again into a larger form.
Nine people.
Nine responses.
Eighteen Data Frames.
One exclamation point.
