EZRA
2025–2026
Mixed-media assemblage

At the center is a terracotta figure representing Ezra Dager, placed atop a Deyrolle book on the stairs.

Behind the figure is a French floral needlepoint. The flowers form a backdrop for Ezra while reflecting the interior thoughts of the figure.

Above this, forming the first dash of the larger assemblage, is a photographic field of Instax photographs, each containing botanical subject matter that continues the natural imagery of the needlepoint below.

Within the photographic field is another exclamation point.

A repurposed point originally used in commercial signage forms the point. A Braun desk alarm clock, held magnetically beneath it, forms the dot.

The magnets hold the clock’s second hand in place. If the button on top of the clock is depressed, the alarm will eventually sound.

Above the photographic field, forming the final dash of the larger exclamation point, is an original artwork purchased by the artist as a teenager at a yard sale in Boulder, Colorado and later reframed. Its organic forms continue the natural imagery running through the needlepoint and botanical photographs below.

Together, the terracotta figure, needlepoint, photographic field, clock, signage, and painting form a portrait through accumulation.

Around them are photographs, objects, artworks, places, symbols, and things collected over time.

None of these things explains who Ezra is on its own.

Together, they begin to form a portrait.

EZRA is an identity assembled over time.
