Containers
2025–2026
Mixed-media assemblageContainers is made from things designed to hold other things.
An array of containers, vessels, and objects collected across the artist’s lifetime is arranged on a woodblock counter piece removed from the kitchen at The Rigley Field.
Among them are a French Heinz ketchup bottle from 2005; an unopened French bottle of water from the same year; a repurposed piggy bank containing marbles sorted by Grandfather; a cigar box from Grandfather; the last of a set of red wine glasses from Mother; shards of crystal and glass from broken ornaments, glasses, and plates; and the remaining example of a pair of glasses that once existed with a twin.
Other containers and objects include a wooden Hidden NY chopstick set, silver-plated salt and pepper shakers, an old metal bento box, a thermos, and an olive oil cruet.
Some containers are clear.
Some are closed.
Some still perform the function they were made for.
Others now hold something entirely different.
Beneath the woodblock sits a preserved stone connected to the Rigley family and found at The Rigley Field. Two stacks of books support the front of the structure.
Containers exists as a work on its own. Within the larger installation of Volume I, it also forms the dot of two neighboring works to its left.
The objects have different origins, uses, materials, and histories. What brings them together is that they were kept.
Containers.
