Data Frames
2026
Index cards, aluminum tape, Sharpie marker and Caran d’Ache pen
These data frames as laid out across the sofa in the gallery space represent all of the different data frames that went into the development and creation of the works comprising Volume One.
Arranged by the artist’s father, the data frames represent the entirety of the information at the core of the project. Topics in the artist’s full data frame set cover meaning encoded in objects, self reflections, architectural plans for the gallery, daily words of affirmation and more.
The data frames for months were affixed around the room covering the different walls, furniture and objects as the artist worked through the meaning encoded in each piece. This process allowed the artist then to activate and use the data framed ephemera as material to then be arranged and processed together.
These data frames were the first step to allowing the artist to be able to arrange and eventually sort through all of the collected material, make sense of it and then place it to tell the story of his lived experience to that point.
That data frames acted as stepping stones along the way on this journey. Eventually the artist decided that the works had out grown the necessity of the data frames and they were removed toward the end of development of Volume One.
Here they serve to represent the first steps in a year long journey. They aren’t meant to all be understood completely and instead represent the accumulation of meaning central to the artist’s life as an example of the commonalities in meaning that we all share despite our differences.
