Bookshelf
2025–2026
Mixed-media installation
A shelving unit holds books, sculptures, souvenirs, found objects, and things kept from different moments in a life.
Nothing has a permanent place.
Objects move onto the shelves, off the shelves, and into other works throughout The Rigley Field. New things can arrive. Others can leave.
Most of the objects placed across the four shelves are accounted for on three metal panels installed on the wall to the left. Each is documented with a photograph locating where its information originates on the bookshelf.
The three metal panels form an exclamation point of their own.
At the same time, the panels, a coat rack, and the bookshelf form a second, horizontal exclamation point moving from left to right across the room. The metal panels form the point, the coat rack occupies the space between, and the bookshelf forms the dot.
The Data Frames for the coat rack are tucked into the crook of the sleeve of the orange coat.
Multiple exclamation points exist within the same installation at once, each organizing and holding different information.
The shelves hold things while their importance is still becoming clear.
Some may eventually become artworks.
Some may remain exactly what they are.
Bookshelf is never finished in exactly the same arrangement.
