EZRA
2025–2026
Mixed-media assemblage

EZRA as an assemblage is comprised of three sections which form the ‘system’ at play collectively moving from the bottom to the top of the piece.

At the center of EZRA is a French floral needlepoint. The flowers design of the needlepoint acts as the ‘visual input’ to the piece in that this design is what sets the content of the next to panels. The needlepoint, evoking the connection to nature and the outside, contains a number of pins collected over the years. These pieces of ephemera act as the artists personal ‘data’ being added to the piece.

Above this, forming the first dash of the larger assemblage, is a photographic field of Instax photographs, each containing botanical subject matter that continues the natural imagery of the needlepoint below. This section is the first ‘activation’ happening in the piece in which the theme as set by the needlepoint below is then translated through the artist’s own photos as captured over

A repurposed point originally used in commercial signage forms the point. A Braun desk alarm clock, held magnetically beneath it, forms the dot.

The magnets hold the clock’s second hand in place. If the button on top of the clock is depressed, the alarm will eventually sound.

Above the photographic field, forming the final dash of the larger exclamation point, is an original artwork purchased by the artist as a teenager. Its organic forms continue the natural imagery running through the needlepoint and botanical photographs below.

Together, the three panels work together in unison to demonstrate the theme as set by the material present in the first panel (flowers and the artist’s ephemera) and then translate this through photopraphy and objects in the second panel and finally as [purchased] art in the final panel of the triptych.

EZRA is an assemblage demonstrating how meaning is formed and physically translated.
